Milton Transit ridership at all-time high amid ongoing efforts to expand public transit services for Milton

In 2016, Milton Transit ridership reached an all-time high, passing a milestone 500,000 boardings, with revenue passenger trips growing by 11%. September schedule adjustments provided enhanced service coordination with GO Transit and secondary school hours helping to drive ridership growth and service satisfaction.

This year, Milton Transit will continue to expand services with the introduction of a route servicing new growth areas (Boyne), later evening services (Q3), and pilot service to Campbellville.

“There is a demand for increased public transit in Milton, but we understand that in order to be an efficient and effective alternative, these services need to be coordinated with other transit providers like GO,” said Paul Cripps, Commissioner of Engineering.

Milton continues to work with Metrolinx to enhance service and clarify timelines. Town of Milton CAO, Bill Mann has invited Metrolinx to Milton Council to provide an update on the CP Rail capacity study and two-way, all-day GO Train service.

“It’s important that we clarify any misinformation about the timing for this project and I look forward to an update from Metrolinx at Milton Council in the near future,” said Mayor Gord Krantz. “Staff and elected officials continue to have productive discussions with Metrolinx about GO Station access, parking management, enhanced service needs and future service expectations.”

Metrolinx has yet to provide a date for a presentation to Milton Council.
