On February 10, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development along with Ontario Minister of Transportation, the Honourable Stephen Del Duca, announced more than $725,000 in one-time funding to expand Milton Transit. The additional funding comes from the Canada-Ontario Public Transit Infrastructure Fund phase one agreement where Ontario transit systems are eligible to receive funding designed to address key transit infrastructure priorities.
The Town of Milton’s funding will support the purchase of three (3) transit busses to meet increased ridership demand in growth areas, and the procurement of automated passenger counters and automated vehicle location systems on all Milton Transit buses.
“This funding is significant and will help to ensure that as Milton Transit ridership grows, we have the assets required to meet the demand,” said Mayor Gord Krantz. “Innovative funding agreements between all levels of government are critical to support the infrastructure needs of growing communities like ours.”
An update on Milton Transit initiatives and ridership statistics will be provided to Milton Council on February 27. For more information visit www.miltontransit.ca.
